The INDENT Emerging Filmmaker Collaborative brings emerging media professionals into active independent productions in the Pittsburgh region, working alongside experienced mentors as full contributing members of the production team. Each program cycle places nine Emerging Filmmakers across three projects. Depending on the project, an Emerging Filmmaker may work within a single production phase or across multiple phases from development through final delivery.

»Who Should Apply
The program is open to filmmakers and media professionals who have foundational experience in the field and are ready to take the next step in their career.
Strong candidates typically have:
Three or more years of filmmaking and/or production experience (including film training at a university, college, or trade school)
At least one completed filmmaking internship or fellowship
An independently developed, sanctioned, or published project
A production credit on at least one feature or long-form work
Meeting all four criteria is not required, but applicants should be able to demonstrate substantive experience in their intended track area. Applicants who have come to the field through nontraditional routes or who have faced barriers to formal training opportunities are encouraged to apply.
»What to Expect
Each placement is a 400-hour commitment over three months with a $10,000 paid stipend.
Emerging Filmmakers also receive:
Direct mentorship from experienced industry practitioners
Hands-on experience within their assigned track
An official production credit on a completed project
Structured milestone reviews and midpoint evaluations
Expanded professional networks through embedded production work
This is a professional production environment, not a classroom or lab setting. Emerging Filmmakers are expected to show up, contribute, and perform at the level of a working industry professional.
Upon completing the program, alumni remain connected to INDENT. Graduates who meet or exceed program expectations may access production equipment at no cost for independent creative work, attend future workshops and guest speaker sessions, and may be invited back as paid professionals on future productions to mentor incoming Emerging Filmmakers.
